18 Sep News & Events : Hari Raya Celebration
The start of June was indeed festive as we joined our Muslim brothers and sisters for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri Celebration. It is the day where Muslims break their month long fast and the celebration is also known as Eid al-Fitr (Festival of Breaking the Fast).
A month prior to Hari Raya, Muslims fast to learn self-control and empathy towards others. It is also a way Muslims show appreciation to what Allah has bestowed upon them. Hari Raya Aidilfitri is a celebration with family, friends and the community. On the day of the celebration, Muslims dress in their very best, visit the mosque and seek forgiveness from their elders. Young children receive green packets of money and everyone digs into the scrumptious meals prepared at home. The children of the WhyteHouse were thrilled to try eating with their hands as they dug into the simple yet deliciously made ‘nasi lemak’.
